Joyce Kim is the Executive Director of Stellar, a technology that enables money to move directly between people, companies and financial institutions as easily as email. Stellar sees financial access as not the final destination, but rather a necessary precondition for people to fulfill their other basic human needs, such as education, food, healthcare and safety.
Reihan Salam, a New America Foundation fellow, writes on politics, culture, and technology. At PopTech 2009, Salam argues that America’s growing diversity, divided by massive inequalities, will lead the country to increasing social conservatism. Salam also co-authored Grand New Party: How Conservatives Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream.
Dan Ariely, the author of Predictably Irrational, referenced the foolishness of certain actions (e.g. texting while driving), what he calls “small irrationalities” that we do every day. These can lead up to big problems. With our current model of labor, for instance, we reward people with rest. This doesn’t really capture what it is that engages people, what causes them to want to work.
